A Brief History of gpfm
As we look forward to the new financial year and all it will bring, we wanted to look back at where we came from. We asked our directors Simon Frost and Scott Atkinson for a short history of gpfm and some of the things that have made it such an exceptional company– both for our employees and our clients.
When was gpfm founded?
gpfm was founded on 12th of March 2001.
Who was the founder and why did they set up the company?
Gerald Ivan Pepper, for whom the firm is named. The business was established to provide long term financial planning solutions with a transparent fee model.
How did Simon and Scott come to run gpfm?
Having been trained as advisers by Gerald in the early 1990s, the pair initially approached Gerald about joining gpfm and bringing their clients with them. What actually transpired was that Gerald was keen to retire. As a result, he proposed that Scott and Simon buy the business from him and take it forward. The deal was done in December 2009, making this year our ten–year anniversary – something we are proud and privileged to celebrate.
Gerald had a long history of providing advice in Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas and was very well connected with local lawyers and accountants. As Gerald had recruited Scott and Simon in the early 1990s and they had all worked in Hertford together for many years, that made Hertfordshire the hub of the business. However, we now also have clients all over the UK.
When did the company become chartered?
gpfm became a chartered Financial Planners on 8th of November 2013. Being chartered is an exclusive title only awarded to firms that meet rigorous criteria relating to professionalism and capability. All chartered firms commit to a code of ethics, reinforcing the highest standards of professional practice in their business dealings, which is why we are particularly proud to bear the title. You can read more about what being chartered means on our blog.
What are some of the charities and local events gpfm have been involved in?
The gpfm team are highly involved with several local causes, including Herts Young Homeless and Longmore Charitable Foundation, as well as some wonderful local sports teams.
How would you characterise gpfm’s ethos?
Our clients are the core of our business and are part of the family. We provide lifestyle financial planning as well as an outstanding service. We have a strong ethos of trust which enables us to provide a long-term and consistent relationship with both clients and staff.
What does the future hold for gpfm?
We will maintain the outstanding delivery of financial planning, helping our clients achieve their financial and lifestyle goals as well as contributing to the local community and creating a place where people feel looked after, both financially and otherwise..
