My journey into financial planning started way back in June 1989. I qualified as a financial planner in 1995 and since becoming co-owner of gpfm financial planners, my role has expanded to include ‘running the business’. This involves a lot more than I ever thought! I recently achieved Chartered Financial Planner status and am working towards becoming a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society.
The financial world can be confusing, I passionately believe in proper financial planning, where my clients can visualise their financial future and confidently make the right decisions, sometimes decisions they never thought they could make. I pride myself on seeing my clients achieve their lifetime and financial goals.
This is what I’ve done
I started with Heath Consulting, which was part of a larger insurance broking group. Over the years the financial services part of the business was sold, changed name, went through a management buyout and was then sold again. All of these changes made the company smaller and I found myself being more influential within the business. This sparked the light bulb moment for me and I decided to go it alone and wanted to own my own business.
I was fortunate to be trained by Gerald Pepper back in the day and having remained friends we began discussions about helping him retire and buying his business. Simon and I completed the deal in December 2009.
And this is what I’m all about
I am a family man, married with three children, although my 24 year old daughter will hate me for referring to her as a child!
I am a passionate Tottenham Hotspur fan (please do not use that against me when choosing your financial planner!) and regularly attend matches to enjoy the frustrations of being a Tottenham fan. My sporting interests do not end there, I am a keen skier, enjoy golf and the occasional day at the horse racing.
I am also a self-confessed plane spotter! I have always had a passion for aviation, there’s an air of mystery to it that I find fascinating. I will at some point get my private pilot’s licence, watch this space…
