I am a Chartered Financial Planner with the CII which is a world renowned professional qualification which distinguishes me from the masses, signalling the attainment of qualifications and the continuing pursuit of the highest professional standards.
I believe in not only achieving the highest professional qualifications personally, but running a business with a philosophy and ethos of trust and to provide a long-term, evolving yet consistent relationship with both our clients and our staff. I cannot revolutionise financial advice but I can help people understand what they have, what they want to achieve and how they can do it without using industry jargon.
This is what I’ve done…
Having obtained ‘A’ levels, I chose not to go to university preferring to learn a trade as I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. As I had a passion for numbers rather than the written word, I joined the pension’s technical department of National Mutual Life. This was similar to a library so in search of more action, I applied for the role of office junior in a local firm of financial advisers.
Recruited by Gerald Pepper in 1993 (the person whose business I ended up buying!), I worked hard for 10 years learning my trade obtaining experience and qualifications for a national firm of financial advisers.
In 2003, I flew the nest and joined a thriving regional accountancy firm with the aim of building a financial planning arm from scratch so that they had another offering and business stream for their clients. This proved successful with the partners eventually selling the accountancy business to BDO Stoy Hayward who are a top 5 practice in the UK and an international business.
Working for a large organisation such as BDO I learnt a lot but still had the drive, energy and enthusiasm to do my own thing. After a few months of negotiation, we signed the dotted line to purchase gpfm from Gerald Pepper as he was ready to wind down and eventually put his feet up.
…And this is what I’m all about
Scott and I are like an old married couple who have found their routine having worked together previously and having known each other for over 25 years.
I live in St Albans which is a great city for history, eating and drinking. I have not tried all of the bars and restaurants yet but am working on it! As well as enjoying good food and wine, my other main social passions are the gym – I try and burn off the food and wine with personal training sessions and spin classes – music, live gigs (especially Bon Jovi), watching Spurs and playing golf.
I enjoy being Dad to Isabella and Riley so some of my hobbies have had to take a bit of a back seat for now as there are not 25 hours in a day!
